A engenharia utiliza a hidrologia no projeto e opera\u00e7\u00e3o de hidrel\u00e9tricas, dentre outras aplica\u00e7\u00f5es. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id='ciclo-hidrol\u00f3gico'  id=\"boomdevs_1\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Ciclo Hidrol\u00f3gico<\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">O estudo da hidrologia come\u00e7a com o conceito do <strong>Ciclo Hidrol\u00f3gico<\/strong>. Os oceanos armazenam 97% da \u00e1gua na terra e n\u00e3o &#8220;transbordam&#8221; nem secam por causa do ciclo hidrol\u00f3gico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">O ciclo hidrol\u00f3gico inicia com a <strong>Evapora\u00e7\u00e3o<\/strong> das \u00e1guas no planeta. As massas de ar em circula\u00e7\u00e3o na atmosfera transportam o vapor d&#8217;\u00e1gua para diversas regi\u00f5es do globo. Em condi\u00e7\u00f5es especiais, este vapor se transforma em nuvens, que podem precipitar na forma de chuva, neve ou granizo. Parte significativa da <strong>Precipita\u00e7\u00e3o<\/strong> ocorre sobre os pr\u00f3prios oceanos e, desta forma, o ciclo se fecha.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">A parcela que cai sobre os oceanos se torna in\u00fatil para a gera\u00e7\u00e3o de energia porque a \u00e1gua j\u00e1 se encontra no n\u00edvel mais baixo poss\u00edvel. Por isso, vale mais chover em S\u00e3o Paulo do que no Rio de Janeiro do ponto de vista energ\u00e9tico. Denomina-se de <strong>Evapotranspira\u00e7\u00e3o<\/strong> a combina\u00e7\u00e3o desses dois \u00faltimos processos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">O <strong>Escoamento superficial<\/strong> representa a parcela que flui sobre a superf\u00edcie da terra formando c\u00f3rregos, lagos e rios at\u00e9 chegar aos oceanos. Por isso, o Escoamento Superficial se torna o elemento mais importante na gera\u00e7\u00e3o hidrel\u00e9trica.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Parte da precipita\u00e7\u00e3o penetra no solo-<strong>Percola\u00e7\u00e3o<\/strong>, formando o sistema de \u00e1guas subterr\u00e2neas. Elas tamb\u00e9m sofrem a a\u00e7\u00e3o da gravidade e fluem para regi\u00f5es mais baixas e eventualmente terminam nos oceanos. Denomina-se este fen\u00f4meno de <strong>Escoamento Subterr\u00e2neo<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">A Figura 2 mostra a distribui\u00e7\u00e3o da \u00e1gua no planeta. A \u00e1gua subterr\u00e2nea e o gelo respondem por quase toda a \u00e1gua armazenada fora dos oceanos, mas representa apenas 3,5% da reserva total de \u00e1gua.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: Parte do escoamento superficial infiltra no solo &#8211; <strong>Percola\u00e7\u00e3o<\/strong>&#8211; formando as \u00e1guas subterr\u00e2neas que, por sua vez, voltam \u00e0 superf\u00edcie atrav\u00e9s das nascentes ou da transpira\u00e7\u00e3o das plantas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Todo o fluxo da \u00e1gua na terra depende de diversos fatores, tais como a topografia da regi\u00e3o, da geologia do terreno, da vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o, da temperatura, da umidade, e do clima.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id='balan\u00e7o-h\u00eddrico'  id=\"boomdevs_2\">Balan\u00e7o H\u00eddrico<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">O Balan\u00e7o H\u00eddrico representa a base da hidrologia e equivale ao fluxo de pot\u00eancia na engenharia el\u00e9trica, sendo o escoamento superficial associado \u00e0 pot\u00eancia ativa porque gera energia e o escoamento subterr\u00e2neo associado \u00e0 pot\u00eancia reativa porque n\u00e3o gera energia diretamente.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">A varia\u00e7\u00e3o da \u00e1gua armazenada corresponde \u00e0 soma dos fluxos que entram menos a soma dos fluxos que saem num determinado ponto e\/ou regi\u00e3o. Observa-se que a maior parte da evapora\u00e7\u00e3o e da precipita\u00e7\u00e3o ocorre nos oceanos. A precipita\u00e7\u00e3o em terra supera a soma da evapora\u00e7\u00e3o com os escoamentos superficiais. Isto significa que existe um ac\u00famulo de \u00e1gua subterr\u00e2nea em terra firme. Esta caracter\u00edstica determina a viabilidade de vida fora dos oceanos. Al\u00e9m disso, o escoamento superficial supera muito o escoamento subterr\u00e2neo. Isto n\u00e3o surpreende porque l\u00edquidos fluem mais rapidamente em superf\u00edcies livres do que em meios porosos. Isto refor\u00e7a a validade de desconsiderar o fluxo subterr\u00e2neo no estudo simplificado das hidrel\u00e9tricas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div
